Controlling and Predicting the Pilling Propensity of Fabrics. Pilling adversely affects the appearance of fabrics and garments. It is one of the most serious quality problems for the textile industry, particularly the wool industry. This project will examine and control the key factors that contribute to fabric pilling in the fibre-to-fabric conversion processes. It also aims to predict fabric pilling performance from these factors. This project will examine and control the key factors that contribute to fabric pilling in the fibre-to-fabric conversion processes. It also aims to predict fabric pilling performance from these factors. This will help the industry, along the fibre to fabric chain, to understand the mechanism of pilling and to work together to manage and control this long-standing problem for the benefit of the textile industry as well as textile consumers.Read moreRead less

Information quality problems are widespread in practice and have significant economic impacts. This project will refine and extend a rigorous theoretical framework for understanding information quality and develop and validate the Information Health Monitor, an instrument for assessing the quality of information within organisations. Existing approaches to information quality are mostly not rigorously defined and view information as a product. This work is significant and innovative as it is soundly based in existing theory, rigorously defined and views information as both a product and service. The instrument will enable organisations to better identify and address their information quality problems.Read moreRead less

Infrastructure for large-scale data resource sharing between research institutions – an environmental case study. The project creates a federated distributed data infrastructure for research, that encourages data creators to make their data available to other scientists, and encourages users to make use of data available from many sources. The vision is to establish an ICT infrastructure to facilitate a whole-of-environment approach to environmental research. The outcome is a proof-of-concept ....Infrastructure for large-scale data resource sharing between research institutions – an environmental case study. The project creates a federated distributed data infrastructure for research, that encourages data creators to make their data available to other scientists, and encourages users to make use of data available from many sources. The vision is to establish an ICT infrastructure to facilitate a whole-of-environment approach to environmental research. The outcome is a proof-of-concept application based upon a case study of Queensland Environmental Protection Agency’s databases, to gain an in-depth understanding of the complexity, scope and key technological barriers for establishing an ICT infrastructure, to identify where the latest technologies can be used and where the gaps are for these technologies to be used in environmental sciences.Read moreRead less

Existing electronic commerce have shown profound limitations when dealing with key issues related to electronic commerce applications, such as data interoperability, mobility and performance. The aim of this project is to understand the complexity of the underlying problems related to electronic commerce applications, and to subsequently produce a robust and efficient infrastructure to support them. It is significant because it is expected to automate most of the tedious and complex activities of on-line transactions. The main outcome will be a set of techniques and programs that will form the basis of the commercial software, with a significant export potential.Read moreRead less
SeqSeeker: a search engine for large numbers of very long sequences. Large sets of very long sequences arise in many important domains. The benefit to Australia nationally is beyond the telecommunication industry. The project will transform other Australian industries which rely on mobile information services, including emergency response services (eg. ambulance, police), mobile workforce and mobile commerce, transportation/traffic controller, bureau of meteorology, defence/army forces, financial market, as well as tourism and news. With the enormous growing of investment in these industries, this project will become a major contribution to national productivity and growth.Read moreRead less
An Integrated Infrastructure for Dynamic and Large Scale Supply Chain. Efficient and scalable middlewares are an important part of our current competitive economy. Efficient and scalable middlewares are an important part of our current competitive economy. This is particularly important in Australia where production and population centres are spread over large distances. As a result, inefficiencies in web-based disparate businesses are likely to have a strong impact on the national economy. This project will provide an integrated framework and solutions to urgently needed integration problems faced by current industries. The development of a reliable and flexible infrastructure will benefit small and medium-scale enterprises, as they will be able to participate in large-scale supply chains and expand their business, without having to invest in expensive new computer systems and software.Read moreRead less
