Precarious Movements: Choreography and the Museum. This project aims to interrogate the relationship between dance and visual art practices and institutions since the turn of the 21st century, developing solutions for emerging and associated challenges for artists and art workers. As a contemporary art form, dance innovates our museums and galleries by foregrounding challenging issues such as the dematerialization of art, the nature of creative labor, digital archives, experience as economy, and ....Precarious Movements: Choreography and the Museum. New media dramaturgy: how new media transform the composition and reception of live performance. New media dramaturgy will formulate a new framework for analysing and creating contemporary new media performance including multimedia theatre and dance, video performance and installation. The project will also explore how the synthesis of new dramaturgy and new media has changed the experience of live arts for the spectator.
Power and Performance: Revaluing Theatre in the 21st century. This project aims to examine the changing function of the theatre in Western culture. For millennia, theatre has been valued as a way to bridge questions of a personal and political nature. As the Western cultural sphere is now organised around generating consensus rather than debate, so this foundational function of theatre is being challenged and must be re-assessed. AusStage: Australian Performing Arts Gateway, Phase Two - Enhancement and Information Retrieval. AusStage is a web-based database of performing arts activities in Australia, from 1788 to the present, which was initially funded as a pilot project by the ARC in 2000. Phase Two will develop AusStage into a major research resource and an international pioneer in the dissemination of performing arts information. It will expand the existing database from 7,000 to 100,000 entries, enrich its quality ....AusStage: Australian Performing Arts Gateway, Phase Two - Enhancement and Information Retrieval. AusStage is a web-based database of performing arts activities in Australia, from 1788 to the present, which was initially funded as a pilot project by the ARC in 2000. Mobilising remote Aboriginal art centre records for art history. This project will use the archives of remote Aboriginal art centres to promote Aboriginal artists. For a long time their work has been thought of overseas as primitive, or of ethnographic interest. By examining the innovations of the work of Aboriginal artists, this project will demonstrate that these are contemporary artists of global quality.

Thinking brains and bodies: distributed cognition and dynamic memory in Australian Dance Theatre. Creative thinking, learning and memory - key features of human cognition - will be investigated in the context of dance in this project. Complementary quantitative and qualitative methods will shed light on process and communication in the Australian Dance Theatre and the arts more broadly, and inform new accounts of thinking as embodied and distributed.
The Macquarie PEN Anthology of Australian Literature. The anthology will be a major scholarly work. Its publication will stimulate scholarship in the Humanities. The project will also renew mainstream interest in the scope and sophistication of Australian literature. Many new works will be introduced to Australian readers, to education systems and to literary scholarship.
