Cosmopolitan development: the impacts of international volunteering. This project will provide new ways of thinking about the impact of international development volunteering. It examines how volunteering contributes to more equal partnerships between Australia and its neighbouring countries and how it transforms the ways volunteers and host organisations perceive and respond to global challenges.

Summary
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders experience the highest rates of heart disease and diabetes of all Australians. The reasons for this large disparity is not yet fully understood. I propose to investigate the patterns, causes, complications and links between heart disease and diabetes in Indigenous populations to identify better ways of managing and preventing chronic disease in high risk communities.
Nonlinear Panel Data Econometrics: Theory and Practice. This research addresses the ARC National Research Priorities Goal of 'An Environmentally Sustainable Australia', specifically 'Reducing and capturing emissions in transport and energy generation'. Avoiding, managing, and/or adapting to the climate change impacts is now the most pressing global environmental problem. Summary
Heart disease and stroke is the leading cause of death for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and accounts for over one quarter in the life expectancy gap. A recent survey found that 59% of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women live with heart disease or stroke. This PhD seeks to understand the risks of, and hospitalisation and mortality from heart disease and stroke in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women. The project is guided by a women’s Advisory Group.
New estimation and testing issues in nonlinear time series econometrics. The outcomes of this project will not only complement but also enhance the existing strengths of Australian researchers in the field of econometrics.
