Reform in the antipodes: Quaker humanitarians, imperial journeys and early histories of human rights. This study adds an important new chapter to the history of human rights by examining Quaker humanitarian tours to the antipodean colonies of Australia, Mauritius, and the Cape Colony, which led to major imperial reforms in the treatment of slaves, Indigenous peoples, convicts and indentured labourers in the British Empire.

No work like this has ever been produced, and it will provide Tasmanians with information about every aspect of their past, as much-praised Companions to South Australian and Australian History have done. Published in printed and CR-Rom format, its audiences will include the general public, students and academic researchers, ensuring the widest possible dissemination of the project's pioneering findings.

This project will identify more precisely the time of the entry of dingoes into Australia and will investigate their impact on the lives of Indigenous Australians. Archaeological and anthropological evidence suggests that Indigenous people rapidly incorporated dingoes into their lives. Dingoes were used for a variety of purposes and were particularly valued as hunters by women, effectively increasing their access to meat. ....The coming of the dingo and its interaction with Indigenous Australians. This project breaks new ground in historical research and will open up areas of demographic and cultural history rarely understood by historians. By reading penal transportation as an aspect of the international traffic in unfree labour and its use as a form of control throughout the British colonies, as well as examining penal systems in relationship to coercive labour management in the Atlantic world ....Transatlantic slavery, the African diaspora and the unfree settlement of Australia, 1750-1850. This project breaks new ground in historical research and will open up areas of demographic and cultural history rarely understood by historians. It will be the first comprehensive integrated geophysical study of a major European archaeological site in Australia and will provide a framework for future geophysical archaeological investigations at other Australian historic sites.
