The total contribution of vascular pathology to dementia is estimated to be as high as 50-70%. The Vascular Contributions to Dementia CRE brings together leading researchers in cerebrovascular disease and dementia to address the most important issues relating to the epidemiology of Vascular Dementia, its robust biomarkers and its treatment and prevention, so as to reduce its overall health burden, and meet the promise of vascular dementia as a truly 'preventable dementia''.

Summary
Despite intensive intervention some individuals with type 1 diabetes develop complications. There remains an urgent need for means to identify patients at risk of complications and new targets and therapies for preventing, arresting, treating and reversing them. The primary objective of the Diabetes Complications Centre of Research Excellence (DC-CRE) is to translate novel experimental findings into preventive/treatment strategies for the management of diabetes and its complications.

Summary
This CRE brings together leading population health researchers to investigate the health effects of mobile phones and magnetic resonance imaging. It will address high priority research questions identified by the WHO. It will generate new knowledge that leads to improved health outcomes through a 5 year research program. The outcomes will be translated into health policy and practice through international and national organisations. The CRE will train PhDs and postdoctoral research fellows.
