This causes major health and personal problems, while the violence and organised crime associated with illicit drug markets affect society. This project will apply econometric techniques to administrative and survey data to establish the long-term causal effects of illicit drug markets on crime, health, education and employment. The results are expected to show how illicit drug policies can improve health and well-being in communities.Read moreRead less

The utility industry is a substantial component of the Australian economy (2.2 % of GDP), underpinning national production. Recent infrastructure failures, costing up to $200 million per week, have been blamed largely on regulatory approaches that emphasise minimum price and cost solutions to utility service provision without any assessment or consideration of the willingness to pay for service quality and the value people place on surety of supply. Research on the role of WTP for service standards in regulating price and service quality is required to prevent future infrastructure failures. This research will provide substantial economic benefits to Australia through improved regulation and better targeting of infrastructure investment.Read moreRead less

Understanding the implications of population ageing for the future costs of funding health care, aged care and aged pensions in Australia. Decisions about health insurance, aged care, superannuation and retirement are often very complex, and most people find making the best choices extremely challenging. This project will develop new models and design new policies that can help people make better decisions in these areas, leading to greater well being in retirement.
Reconnecting and engaging superannuation fund members. To understand the widely perceived disengagement of superannuation fund members, the project team will collaborate with UniSuper and the human resources departments of two large Australian universities on a large-scale, state-of-the-art experiment. This project will provide theoretical, and hands-on, advice to reconnect and engage fund members to enhance/improve retirement savings decisions.

This project aims to improve understanding of the contribution of urban waterways to enhanced liveability in cities.
