Political history of the New South Wales Aboriginal Land Rights Act, 1983. The story of the Aboriginal Land Rights Act (ALRA) that established the land councils, made provisions for land recovery and enterprises, and reshaped Aboriginal people's relationship with the state has not been told. The ALRA initiated a new policy era of self-determination through the three-tier Aboriginal Land Council Network mechanism for land recovery and 15 year compensation fund to support the network and develop ....Political history of the New South Wales Aboriginal Land Rights Act, 1983. Aboriginal Land Councils have become significant land holders - 81367 hectares valued at over $2billion and investment. The Kids in Communities Study: national investigation of community level effects on children's developmental outcomes. This project (a cross-disciplinary collaboration) will investigate community level factors influencing early childhood developmental outcomes using a mixed methods approach in up to 10 communities across Australia. This will result in a potential set of measures or indicators that reflect communities that are good for children.
Philanthropy and Indigenous people: Enhancing Indigenous education outcomes. Indigenous Australians suffer a disparity in educational outcomes that frays the social fabric of the nation. While there is abundant evidence that education is empowering and the social and economic benefits of improving educational outcomes are significant, past and current efforts to increase educational attainment and enhance outcomes among the nation's most disadvantaged citizens have not achieved the gains most ex ....Philanthropy and Indigenous people: Enhancing Indigenous education outcomes. Social and educational disengagement has reached crisis levels among Indigenous youth in many remote communities; young people are leaving school and training programs because they perceive them to be irrelevant or meaningless. The social cost of this phenomenon is high. Network for Innovation in Research and Public Policy to Promote the Health and Wellbeing of Australia's Children and Young People. The network will build research enterprises that promote the health and well-being of children and young people through the enhancement of relevant public policy and civic institutions. It will bring together researchers from universities, government agencies, non-government organisations and peak bodies in recognition of the important research being done in and acro ....Network for Innovation in Research and Public Policy to Promote the Health and Wellbeing of Australia's Children and Young People. The network will build research enterprises that promote the health and well-being of children and young people through the enhancement of relevant public policy and civic institutions. It will bring together researchers from universities, government agencies, non-government organisations and peak bodies in recognition of the important research being done in and across these sectors. It will build on existing established, formal and informal relationships between researchers, as well as seek to forge new relationships. Using mixed methods, this project aims to develop knowledge partnerships with Indigenous communities in three regions across northern Australia to build on understandings of how to respond to alcohol misuse more effectively, ensuring that alcohol is managed in ways that are relevant and useful to communities in a wide range of contexts. Alcohol is a major cause of social, legal and health concerns for Indigenous Australian ....Alcohol management in Indigenous north Australia: policies and responses. Using mixed methods, this project aims to develop knowledge partnerships with Indigenous communities in three regions across northern Australia to build on understandings of how to respond to alcohol misuse more effectively, ensuring that alcohol is managed in ways that are relevant and useful to communities in a wide range of contexts. Alcohol is a major cause of social, legal and health concerns for Indigenous Australians. This has led to significant political involvement in the regulation of alcohol in communities where Australian Indigenous people live. Alcohol management plans have most recently been used as a central device for reducing alcohol-related harms, particularly in remote areas.
