Summary
BET inhibitors are a new type of therapy designed to slow down cancer growth by switching off cancer genes. In individuals with colon and prostate cancer, BET inhibitors have shown good initial results, but these are not long-lasting. By measuring blood levels of a specific type of RNA (a close companion of DNA), called CCAT1 and PCAT1, we hope to better understand which patients gain the most benefit from BET inhibitors, and the mechanisms that cause BET inhibitors to stop working.

Summary
The drug regorafenib has recently emerged as a potential new treatment for patients with gastric (stomach) cancer. We have discovered that gastric cancer cell lines which express high levels of members of the FGFR family are highly sensitive to this drug. This project will define the potential of targeting the FGFR family in gastric cancer,the value of FGFR1-4 as markers of regorafenib response, and develop strategies for enhancing regorafenib activity in this difficult to treat disease.

Summary
Innovation of predictive and responsive biomarkers in pancreatic cancer (PC) is of paramount importance. This project contains two parts: 1. Circulating DNA. It has been shown previously that DNA released into the blood stream by cancer can be measured, its usefulness in PC will be assessed. 2. ROCK-I as a predictive biomarker. ROCK-I is a protein involved in cell motility. The ability for ROCK-I amplification to predict for response to ROCK-I inhibitors will be assessed in vitro/in vivo.

Oesophageal cancer is the most rapidly increasing malignancy in Western society. This disease often presents in advanced stages with poor response to established medical and surgical therapies. Our aim is to develop a novel mouse model of oesophageal cancer, allowing us to tailor cancer-inhibiting molecular treatments to individual patients by predicting therapeutic success or resistance with the use of cellular markers identified in our animal mode.
