Summary
My approach and ultimate goal over the next 4 years is to demonstrate the use of recently discovered “Nanoshearing” technology as a standard diagnostic tool for cancer patients undergoing systemic therapy and assess the impact of standard protocols in predicting response to therapy and patient outcomes. Data from this study could potentially define new standards of clinical practice, as they relate to follow-up screening for response to therapy and recurrence of disease.
MRI Molecular Imaging Agents - from fundamental design to In Vivo Applications. Of approximately 60 million magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedures performed annually worldwide, around 30 per cent of these use MRI imaging agents. Imaging agents allow the doctors to study blood flow and to identify particular tissue types and diseases. This project will lead to new classes of high-performance imaging agents which offer the prospect of faster more accurate diagnosis.

The CoE in Convergent Bio-Nano Science &Technology comprises a multi-disciplinary team focused on research aiming to understand and control the interface of materials with biological systems. The Centre will exploit knowledge of the bio-nano interface to design materials that transport and deliver vaccines, drugs and gene therapy agents, and to design new diagnostic agents and devices. Nanomedicines are on the cusp of revolutionizing diagnosis and therapy in many diseases. The CoE will be the focus of bio-nano research activity in Australia, uniting universities, research agencies, institutes and companies. The expected outcomes are better diagnostic and therapeutic tools designed via an enhanced understanding of the bio-nano-interface.Read moreRead less
Engineering layered double hydroxide nanoparticles toward an efficient targeted clinical delivery system. This project will develop a more effective drug delivery system using clay nanoparticles and biofriendly serum proteins. Outcomes from this project will provide a tremendous opportunity for potent therapies of cancers, vasculature and neuronal diseases, and place Australia at the forefront of nanotechnology drug delivery research.
