Our proposal is motivated by and based upon the successful representation of time series as a network (or graph). We construct an abstract representation of a system from measurements of its changing behaviour over time. Properties of that structure (the network) then allow us to infer diagnostic information of the system. Specifically, we propose to apply this to livestock welfare during transport. By measuring the biological and environment condition of the animal we construct a network representation of that system. Geometric features of that network can then be used to infer health or duress of the subject. This proposal will develop the generic mathematical machinery to connect geometric features of the network with system behaviour.

2D nanomaterial heterostructures for photocatalytic hydrogen production. This project aims to develop two-dimensional (2D) nanomaterial heterostructures as photocatalysts for hydrogen production from the liquid carrier of methanol. In addition to transformational photocatalytic technology to utilise Australian raw resources, this project expects to generate new knowledge in the areas of photochemistry, materials science and nanotechnology. These should not only expand the applications of 2D nano .... These should not only expand the applications of 2D nanomaterials to a new domain of photocatalysts, but also may eventually lead to new industry advances in 2D nanomaterials for a ‘hydrogen economy’.

This Centre aims to explore the society wide transformations that will flow from optical frequency combs - thousands of highly pure light signals precisely spaced across the entire optical spectrum - by leveraging and building upon the latest breakthroughs in physics, materials science and nanofabrication. It expects to generate a wide new base of knowledge in fields as diverse as astronomy, spectroscopy, chemical sensors, and precision measurement. Expected outcomes include the capability to realise complete comb systems on a chip the size of a fingernail, tailored to specific applications, with significant benefits spanning from imaging live cells to autonomous vehicles, satellite communications, and the search for exoplanets.
