Motor problems, ranging from clumsiness to cerebral palsy, are one of the most common adverse outcomes in children born early. This study will investigate the motor development of children born <30 weeks’ gestation compared with peers born at term from birth to 5 years. We will determine whether early clinical evaluations or neuroimaging in the newborn period can predict later motor impairment at 5 years to be able to identify those who will benefit most from early intervention.
Technology is changing the lives of Australians. We need to understand the impact on health to gain the benefits with minimal harm. This fellowship will support a program of internationally leading research drawing together ergonomics, physiotherapy and physical activity expertise. Example projects include the impact of electronic games on children’s activity, walking workstations to increase physical activity of office workers and a family-based program for overweight adolescents.

This study utilises a mixed method approach to explore the roles and relationships between the health professionals involved in this task and its impact on insulin initiation.

Summary
Intellectual disability affects about 2% of the Australian population. The identification of genes underlying a number of intellectual disability disorders has brought about great clinical advances. However, our knowledge of how these genes influence processes of brain development and are important for intelligence is very limited. We propose to study the function of PHF6, the gene mutated in the Börjeson-Forssman-Lehmann intellectual disability syndrome, during brain development.
An integrated platform built on efficient informatics concepts already implemented in international research infrastructures for large-scale data management, providing access to federated databases/registries, biobank catalogues, harmonised - omics profiles, and bioinformatics tools. Patient data types will be linked via a unique identifier “RD-ID” developed jointly with the US NIH.
