The e-Research Grid program will research and implement core Grid technologies on APAC and partner's deployed HPC resources, to underpin a broad range of Australian research. The computer science CIs will form collaborative links with international programs, adapting developments to local circumstances. The applications-domain CIs will leverage those into their scientific simulations and databases, using grid integrative techniques and portals. Many CIs participate in other RNs linking to their motivating applications, enhancing prospects for research and integration. They participate in the APAC Grid program, leveraging 75 HPC staff nationally. A key aim is interoperability with "real-world Grids": eg e-learning & e-health programs.Read moreRead less

Quantum mechanics (QM) is a well known and successful theory from physics which has recently attracted quite some public interest. Quantum Mechanics is emerging out of physics and permeating into other areas, for example, information retrieval, human language and cognition. This offers tantalizing possibilities and bizarre implications, some of which, if realized, can lead to genuine breakthroughs in producing information technology to enhance human awareness in increasingly complex information environments. Through this project, Australia has the possibility to be at the forefront and have a hand in determining such developments.Read moreRead less

Queensland Health and itSMF recognise there is a need to transform the crucial IT infrastructure of Australian industries by disseminating frontier technologies such as ITIL. This project addresses the complex interactions of benefits, performance metrics and methods to enable CIOs and IT service managers to measure and realise the benefits of improved IT service management. The outcomes of this project will compel organisations to implement practices and processes that significantly reduce risks. The large public and private investment in IT infrastructure will be more wisely managed and maintained and Australian organisations will benefit through more effective use of productivity-enhancing technology.Read moreRead less

Developments in the area of business process management are currently hindered by the plethora of diverse business process execution languages. This project will develop techniques for dealing with interoperability issues induced by this language heterogeneity. The project combines theoretical research, grounded in concurrency theory and workflow patterns, with pragmatic research focusing on languages supported by commercial tools. The outcome will be a framework for comparing the expressiveness of process execution languages and defining mappings between them. This will place Australia at the forefront of developments in business process management systems: a crucial technology in today's global, dynamic, and heterogeneous environments.
