Summary
Stroke is the second most common cause of death and major cause disability. There are few proven interventions, so we need to introduce new ones. We developed a bench to bedside program to introduce new stroke therapies and its early secondary prevention. Our general goal is to provide evidence for their effectiveness and safety. We will use animal stroke models, markers in the blood to help diagnose and predict stroke outcome and imaging to help select patients for several clinical trials.
The Derwent project: immersive digital media visualisations for the representational problems of complex and remote environments. The Derwent Project will create new ways to visualise the complex natural and cultural history of Tasmania’s Derwent River system. This vast and often inaccessible environment includes Aboriginal and colonial heritage alongside ten hydroelectric developments. This project aims to develop effective conservation strategies for swift parrots and other migrants using new and long term data and innovative technological solutions to tracking small birds across vast landscapes.
Developing molecular and physiological markers for marker-assisted barley breeding for waterlogging tolerance. The overall loss in crop production due to waterlogging is second largest after drought, and more than 5 million hectares in Australia are prone to waterlogging. This project will develop physiological and molecular markers allowing for the development of waterlogging tolerant crops, thus contributing to the National Goal of ‘Responding to Climate Change and Variability’.
