A study of the public understanding of the Great Barrier Reef and its sustainable use. As a national icon, the survival of the Great Barrier Reef is of consequence to all Australians. Nation Building and Elite Formation in Singapore, 1966-85. * The project will study elite formation, the praxis of elite governance, and the development of the relationship between elitism and nation building in Singapore from independence in late 1965 to approximately 1985.
* This study is significant because it is arguably the pivotal axis on which the Singapore experience of governance rests, and yet it has not been the subject of a dedicated study.

This collaborative project with the National Foundation for Australian Women explores the changing extent and nature of Australian women's philanthropic giving since1880. It will test the hypothesis that these activities both reflected broader constructions of gender and shaped civil society and public policy. Sport, stories and survival: Reframing Indigenous sport history. This project aims to work with Indigenous communities to research and reframe their sport histories. Sport helped create identity in Australian Indigenous communities during the twentieth century amidst great social and cultural upheaval, particularly in institutionalised communities such as Government settlements and religious missions. Creating histories of the Australian Paralympic movement: a new relationship between researchers and the community. This project will explore the history of Australian disability sport, analysing the emerging phenomenon of sport as rehabilitation in the 1950s; through to elite competition at the modern Paralympic Games. Three modes of discourse will interact to involving the researchers, digital expertise, and online writers.
The Queensland Historical Atlas: Histories, Cultures, Landscapes. An Historical Atlas of Queensland will provide a unique perspective on the interaction between environmental and cultural forces in the shaping of Queensland's history. It does so by examining a moment of tension in late antique Alexandria to understand the processes that transformed classical antiquity into Byzantine Christendom. Early Christians and Muslims developed the religious interpretation of dreams, using it to bolster the religious authority of their leaders, who laid claim to the Jewish tradition of prophets who brought messages from God. Memories of utopia: Destroying the past to create the future (300-650 CE). This project aims to examine the evidence for competing utopian ideologies in early Christianity, which was a prelude to the later clash with Islam from the seventh century onward. Evidence from pagan-Jewish-Christian conflicts in Late Antiquity (300-650 CE) shows that violent destruction of the past is not exclusive to fringe religious groups. These past conflicts are relevant for understanding the conflict in the Middle ....Memories of utopia: Destroying the past to create the future (300-650 CE).
