Funding Amount
$312,296.00
Summary
About one third of Australian children have a sleep disorder. Behavioural or academic problems are common in these children, however the link between sleep and daytime problems is still not clear. New research suggests the pattern of brain activity during deep sleep may provide some answers. This study will explore the link between brain activity during deep sleep and daytime functioning in children with sleep disorders, providing valuable information for treatment.
Adolescent Brain Development And Social Cognitive Deficits In Early Psychosis: Can Intervention Improve Outcome?
Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
Funding Amount
$330,848.00
Summary
This project aims to investigate the origin of impairments in social thinking of young people with first episode psychosis (FEP), and whether social cognitive training can reverse these problems and improve social functioning. We think that slower maturation of particular brain regions during adolescence may be related to these social cognitive deficits. We will also explore whether providing training in these skills can influence the development of these key brain structures.

Identifying Social Pathways To Enhanced Life Outcomes In Aboriginal And Torres Strait Islander Children
Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
Funding Amount
$316,449.00
Summary
This fellowship broadly aims to elucidate the social pathways to good and poor physical and mental health outcomes in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in Australia. This will identify the most salient social factors that drive ill health, disease and mortality, and improve population health strategies that aim to prevent poor health outcomes in early life. In doing so, I hope to support policies that can increase the pace of change toward health equity in Australia.
