An evaluation of an alternative model of psychiatric in-patient care for young people with severe mental illness - Qualitative Study

Funded Activity Summary

Hospital-in-the-home (HiTH) is used in other medical settings but has seen limited application as an alternative to inpatient care in youth mental health, especially in Australia. This study forms Work Package 1 of the Orygen@Home Evaluation program of research, which aims to examine the experiences of key stakeholders including young people who've been admitted to the service, their caregivers and family members, plus Orygen@Home clinicians and peer workers. Eighty participants across all stakeholder groups will take part in an evaluation survey. From this sample, a sub-set of 26-30 participants will also complete a face-to-face semi-structured interview. Qualitative analytical methodology will be used to identify patterns and themes across participants experiences with the service.
