Virtual Reality Integrated Social Recovery (VISOR) Psychosis can affect critical non-symptom domains, including social cognition and social-occupational functioning. Impaired social cognitive ability is a key driver of poor functional outcomes, significantly impacting quality of life. Immersive Virtual Reality (VR) is a revolutionary tool that addresses challenges in current treatments, such as engagement, effectiveness, and the generalisation of results. VISOR is a co-produced with young people with lived experience VR-based therapy, evaluated through a double-blind RCT, aimed at improving social cognition and functioning in young people with first episode psychosis (FEP) or those at Ultra High Risk (UHR) for psychosis. Delivered by a VR therapist, VISOR utilises virtual social environments to provide cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), guiding young people in managing symptoms and overcoming social challenges. By adapting to triggers and mastering coping strategies in a safe, controlled space, young people can build the confidence needed to apply these skills in real-world situations.
